COLOR & WEAVE In these most recent weavings, I explore interactions between color, design and weaving techniques that take advantage of some special capacities of the loom. Navajo twill is a seemingly magical arrangement of the loom that produces diagonal lines, zigzags, and diamonds--either alternatively or in combination--for background patterns to other tapestry techniques (see "Estuary," "Night Life," and "Earth Air Fire Water" for flamboyant examples, "Bright Earth" and "Red Squared" for more controlled geometries). With wedgeweave, bands of weft angled alternately left and right impart their own life and energy to any design ("Dance to the Music" and "Red Arrow" ). |
