Horizontal stripes form the basis of pattern for loom weaving, arising very simply from changing the color of the weft as weaving proceeds from edge to edge. Stripes permeate the design of this rug, the background, borders and “flower forms” each a set of stripes at a different scale. I was pleased with the tension between the rhythmic repetition of the layers of wider or narrower stripes and the dynamic, almost clashing hues of the reds of the blossoms.
